25 Things You Didn't Know About Ghostbusters

6. ...Oh, And John Candy Was Supposed To Be Louis Tully

Ghostbusters 1984
Universal Pictures

It's hard to imagine anyone playing Louis Tully other than Rick Moranis, but for a brief minute during an original draft, beloved funny man John Candy was earmarked for the role. Unfortunately, Candy would fail to sign on to the project citing his inability to understand the story as his reason for never adding this iconic role to his resume.

Instead of a mild-mannered insurance broker, Candy's vision of Tully would be as a Terror Dog, mutating from a gnarly beast from another dimension into an overweight German man, so quite different to the Louis we finished up with.

It's a shame we never got to see John Candy in a Ghostbusters movie, but he did appear in the in issue 4 of IDW's Ghostbusters Volume 1 comic book series, and again when Ghostbusters crossed over with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles this time as Louis Tully running across Central Park with Vinze Clortho hot on his tail.
