25 Things You Didn't Know About The Mask
8. It Was Nominated For The Best Visual Effects Oscar
The Mask is pretty much the furthest thing from a traditionally "Oscar-worthy" film, but of course, below-the-line crafts are an easy way for more mainstream-skewing movies to rack up a couple of Academy Awards.
Surprisingly enough, the film actually ended up nominated for the Best Visual Effects Oscar, going up against Forrest Gump and True Lies.
With its ground-breaking effects it was certainly a deserved nod, even if the gong understandably went to the general VFX brilliance of the Best Picture-winning Forrest Gump.
Still, even watching The Mask today in HD, the effects hold up exceptionally well for the most part.
