On paper, Jim Carrey must be an absolute nightmare in any CGI-heavy movie, given his tendency for improvising, going off-script and basically changing the shape of a scene during shooting.

But despite how carefully designed most of The Mask's set-pieces had to be, the VFX team did manage to pivot when Carrey suggested that The Mask should blow a heart-shaped cigarette puff, accompanied by an arrow, during the park liaison with Tina.

It's such a clever and charming little moment that everyone understandably assumes it was conceived before filming began, but it yet again came down to Carrey's on-set ingenuity - and an effects team game to incorporate his ideas.
