F4's first act is grossly padded with scenes that don't really do much in terms of character development or moving the plot forward. When Johnny Storm (Jordan) shows up, he has a street race which causes his car to break down, and after he goes to hospital, his dad lectures him on his attitude, before insisting he come work for him to pay for the damages. Then there are numerous scenes devoted to the building of the inter-dimensional gate, which is then tested on a monkey before the thing is eventually used. For a film that's relatively short in length, it reeks of an editing job that dragged every needless morsel of cutting-room material into the first act, front-loading it to try and bring the film to a serviceable length, no matter how terrible some of this filler is.
