22. Jason's Still Alive? - Friday The 13th Part 2

The original Friday The 13th famously ends with Alice being attacked by a young Jason Voorhees at Crystal Lake. Part 2 of the series opens a few months later with Jason, now a grown adult, as he finishes what he started with Alice, with an ice pick to her temple. So, what's with the huge growth spurt? Was Alice just having some sort of psychotic episode during the first film? Perhaps (the timeline would hardly make sense otherwise).

Also, the first movie hinges on Pamela Voorhees' homicidal rage over the drowning of her son. If Jason was alive all along, her motives in Friday The 13th become blurry. And if Jason in fact never drowned, what does that mean, exactly? He survived by living off of the crawfish on the side of the lake? For 20-plus years? Nobody saw this kid walking around and growing up?

Friday The 13th Part 2 addresses these myriad storytelling problems by ignoring them, and hoping the audience will be forgiving or indifferent enough to ignore them, too.
