25 WTF Moments From The Mission: Impossible Franchise

11. Anthony Hopkins' Pointless Cameo (Mission: Impossible II)

Nobody would blame you if you forgot that Anthony Hopkins was in the second film, because his screen time is so laughably minuscule it's a surprise they even bothered hiring him. The legendary actor appears uncredited (so Paramount couldn't even splash his name over the posters) as Mission Commander Swanbeck, and shows up in just two scenes totaling approximately 7 minutes. His first scene is an exposition dump to Ethan (much of which just features the two watching a video), and he re-appears for a minute at the end to congratulate Ethan on a job well done. There are so many questions here: why hire Hopkins to rattle off such moldy dialogue? Why give him so little to do? And why, oh why, allow him to go uncredited?
