25 WTF Moments From The Mission: Impossible Franchise

22. Ethan Hunt, Family Man (Mission: Impossible III)

M:I3 takes a relatively surprising left-turn for the series by retiring Hunt from active service in the IMF, instead working as a trainer for new recruits, all while his fiancee Julia (Michelle Monaghan) is totally unaware of his activities. Cue a number of peculiar scenes in which Hunt plays the regular family man role, and though it's not long before he's pulled back into the fold, it's still utterly strange to see him this way. Plus, making Hunt married created some rather obvious (not to mention totally foreseeable) complications for future entries in the franchise - Cruise is still paired with a beautiful woman with whom he's required to have sizzling chemistry in every subsequent film, yet can't act upon that chemistry.
