In hindsight, this probably wasn't the best idea that they've ever had. Instead of just doing what any other normal child would have done, and that is wait for their parents, Harry and Ron decide to make their own way to Hogwarts by committing grand theft auto. The Ministry of Magic can detect whenever underage magic has been performed so why wasn't Arthur pulled up on the night that Ron, Fred and George rescued Harry from the Dursley's? Harry also had Hedwig, so he could have used her to send a message to Hogwarts letting them know that they might be a little bit late as they're waiting for Molly and Arthur to come out of the platform who would then ensure that they got to Hogwarts by a different mode of transportation. Hell, if they had waited, they probably would have gotten to Hogwarts before the train if Ron's parents needed to apparate them there.
