Tarantino has a habit of casting actors who audition unsuccessfully for roles in his future movies, and by far the most famous example of this involves Samuel L. Jackson, who reportedly read for the part of Mr. Orange.

Jackson claims he blew the audition because he came to the read with all the lines perfectly memorised, but his scene partners - played by Tarantino and Bender - were joking around, which threw Jackson off and affected his performance.

It all worked out in the end, as Jackson crossed paths with Tarantino at that year's Cannes, where Tarantino informed him that he was working on a new movie with a part earmarked for him, which would eventually become the Jules Winnfield role in Pulp Fiction.

Everything unfolded exactly as it was supposed to, then.
