15. Alicia Silverstone's Lack Of An English Accent
Alfred's niece Barbara (Alicia Silverstone) eventually shows up at Wayne Manor, much to the delight of Dick. However, after Alfred expresses surprise that she came to visit him all the way from England, it's hard not to be distracted by the fact that Silverstone hasn't even attempted to have an English accent. Perhaps Silverstone didn't care about the role enough to try it or maybe Schumacher just didn't give a damn, but why not just remove that line about England? It makes this whole problem go away if it's implied that Barbara was raised in America. As it stands, it's just monumentally lazy and stupid. On the other hand, let this bake your noodle for a minute: what if this was Silverstone's attempt at an English accent and everyone was just too polite to tell the lovely young actress that it stunk?
