After Clint Barton's family was snapped away by Thanos, along with half the living beings in the universe, he became a blood thirsty vigilante, with a kill count higher than some villains in the franchise. Curiously however, his weapon of choice was a sword, rather than his usual bow and arrow.

This decision may be explained in Hawkeye with the appearance of Jacques Duquesne, otherwise known in the comics as The Swordsman.

The former freedom fighter and mercenary was an expert with a sword in hand, and mentored Clint in the same art far before he ever met the Avengers. In the MCU, he could be a figure returning from Clint's past, but not necessarily with the best intentions.

Duquesne once tried to join the Earth's Mightiest Heroes despite a sketchy, criminal past, but was rejected thanks to Hawkeye, and the fact that he had previously threatened Captain America's life. Could it be possible that Tony Dalton's character in the upcoming series is jealous of Clint's success, or on the other side of the coin, could he be angry about the Avenger's five year killing spree?
