One of the film's more unexpected and impressive elements is the somewhat-redemption of Mr. White. Sure, he's still a massive d*** for what he did to Bond in the past, but he's at least shown to be a three-dimensional character who cares deeply for his daughter. When Bond asks Madeleine about L'Americain as White suggested, she tells him that it's a place, not a person. L'Americain is a hotel which White and his wife would go to on their anniversary, and after he and Swann lie low in that very room for a little while, Bond discovers a secret room hidden within. Inside, White has all sorts of covert trinkets, and most specifically a set of co-ordinates which the pair are to follow. He may have done horrible things, but hey, he proved useful in the end, and you can't deny that the guy cares about his kid.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
