1. A Horror Film by Kevin Smith
I will miss this aspect of Kevin Smith the director the most because I feel like we barely scratched the surface. Everybody knows Kevin Smith can direct a comedy, but did you know he's a twisted horror director in the vein of an independent Rob Zombie too? Don't believe me? Just check out Red State. Red State was a twisted little tale with surprising twists and a direction that held your attention for the run time and beyond. It was a film that was hard to believe was from the mind of the director of Jersey Girl, but there it was up on the screen in all its dark glory. Now Smith seems to be planning one final little horror movie titled Tusk to cap off his horror movie bug. If you don't know what Tusk is about then please seek out the Smodcast podcast where Smith discusses the plot. The fact that someone is actually financing it will blow your mind...in a good way. With Kevin Smith the director retiring we won't get to see anymore Tusks or Red States and that is a shame because one can feel a whole new side to the creative writer Kevin Smith that has hardly been exposed. He's got a knack for the horror genre and one can only wish he decides to say the hell with retirement and decide to reinvent himself as the director that pushes the boundaries and conventional wisdom when it comes to a whole lot more than dick and fart jokes.
