When it came time for the producer's of 1984's Supergirl to cast its lead, one of the first actresses at the top of the list was model and former child star Brooke Shields. Disagreements amongst the filmmakers prevented this from becoming a reality. In an interview with Maid Of Might, producer Ilya Salkind explained: My father Alexander and I were partners and we had a big fight over the casting of Supergirl. He wanted Brooke Shields. I was against Brooke Shields. I thought she was too famous and that we should use an unknown as we had previous. Helen Slater, a fresh face, was ultimately cast. The film went on to become a massive failure both with critics and at the box-office. However, Slater was nominated for a Saturn Award for her performance by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films for Best Actress. For whatever that's worth.
