23. Leonidas' 300 Warriors And The Minions Of Xerxes - 300 (2006)
This fictionalized retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae has plenty of action, blood, gore and shiny bucklers in Zack Snyders adaptation of Frank Millers stylized graphic novel. Spartan King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) defies the odds as he leads 300 of his best men into a brutal battle against the huge Persian army in the year 480 B.C. This early showdown between Leonidas' 300 warriors and the minions of Xerxes showed just how skilled the Spartans were in the art of war. By the end, the cowering Persians faced either death by sword or death by falling. The over-the-top hyper-visuals of the scene is like watching a demo of a Xbox One game. In fact, one thing that sets 300 apart from others films in the genre is indeed the insanity of the visuals. Though, the somewhat hilariously macho one-liners being howled by Leonidas didn't hurt either. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdNn5TZu6R8
