Hype: Laika are probably the most interesting animation house currently in operation. They might not have the mainstream clout of Disney or Pixar, but their stories are rich, their animation is gorgeous and they have scored three big wins in a row. Kubo looks like another.
The lead animator on their past three films, Travis Knight has stepped up to direct this tale set in Ancient Japan, that follows a young boy sucked into a magical quest and a centuries old vendetta. The voice cast is great, it looks like another compelling story, and as with everything they make, this is all about the look and the celebration of the stop motion medium.
