30 Most Memorable Oscar Moments From The Last 30 Years
21. James Cameron: "I'm King Of The World!" (1998)
James Cameron's Titanic won a record-tying 11 of its 14 Oscar nominations in 1998, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Film Editing wins for Cameron himself.
But by far the most memorable moment of the night was Cameron's acceptance speech for the Best Director Oscar, where he topped off his speech by declaring, "I'm the King of the world!"
Many felt that Cameron quoting his own movie in such a fashion was egotistical and immodest, in line with his reputation as a tough, demanding director. Is it a bit corny? Sure, but egotistical? The guy just won the biggest filmmaking honour in the world: let him be ecstatic.
