30 Truly Awful Lines That Ruined Comic Book Movies

26. "Why does the phone always ring when you're in the bathtub?" - Superman

Gene Hackman's Lex Luthor might be a picture of pantomime malevolence, and the right balance for Christopher Reeve's more morally black and white Superman, but some of his dialogue, even in the first Superman movie is just plain awful. Luthor is played for laughs way too much (which is probably why he was given a ludicrous sidekick in Superman IV,) which is all well and good when it works, but his flippant response to why so many people have to die for his crime of the century is just baffling. The objective obviously was to make him seem detached, but the substance of the answer makes less sense than if he had grabbed a series of random words out of the ether.

25. "You people are so petty... and tiny." - Avengers Assemble

Petty And Tiny Gif The odd sequence in which it appears that Loki's staff is affecting the mood of the Avengers - in order to change Banner into the Hulk, though it's never sufficiently explored to make it a real threat - comes with a completely out of character moment from Thor, who channels the snark of Iron Man, and the venom of his brother to call out his fellow heroes' masculinity. With precisely no precedent or reason at all.
