25. Deadstream

Hellraiser Pinhead
Stonehaven Entertainment

Just when you thought the found footage subgenre had basically been drained of all possible life and creativity, here comes a staggeringly unique and gleefully hilarious effort that recalls the barmy style and tone of Evil Dead II.

Deadstream follows a disgraced Internet personality (Joseph Winter, who also co-directed the film) who attempts to win back his followers by spending a night livestreaming in a haunted house.

Predictably things go horrifically wrong, resulting in a loony, absurdly entertaining funhouse of terrifying scares and disgusting goo, all while viewers slowly come to root for an obnoxious livestreamer trying to make it out alive.

Above all else, Deadstream confirms there's still life left in found footage yet, when sufficiently smart and thoughtful filmmakers are involved.

Deadstream releases on Shudder on October 6.

Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes). General video game, TV and film nut. Occasional sports fan. Full time loon.
