32 WTF Moments From The Oscars 2016

The bear is back for Leo's Oscar...

The Oscars have come and gone for another year, the absurd popularity contest where rich people pat themselves on the back for their absurdly well-paid work. At least this year's ceremony wasn't quite as predictable as usual, thanks to one of the more open-ended Best Picture races in years, and a central awards narrative that revolved around the lack of black nominees on the slate. Whether you felt this year's show got overbearing with the presence of "liberal social justice", it certainly created a dialogue worth having, and Chris Rock did a splendid job hosting after having a more divisive turn a decade ago. There were clever gags, cringe-worthy presenters, unexpected victories, and of course, Leonardo DiCaprio's long-awaited date with Oscar. And now we all get to spend the next week or so complaining about who got snubbed before we forget that at least 70% of these films even exist.

32. Chris Rock Confronts Oscar Race Controversy

From the moment he comes out onto the stage, Oscar host Chris Rock confronts the racial controversy that has dominated this year's Oscar conversation. Some of his more memorable zingers include "I counted at least 15 black people in that montage!", "Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna's panties" and "This year, in the In Memoriam package, it's just gonna be black people that were shot by cops on their way to the movies." He continues to affirm his belief that Hollywood is indeed racist ("Sorority racist", as he calls it), in a brave and bold opening speech...even if at 10 minutes in length it did drag on a little longer than it had to.
