Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe take the stage to present the Best Adapted Screenplay award, and after arguing about what an adapted screenplay truly is, Gosling says, "We have two Academy Awards between us, this is beneath us." Crowe then inquires as to whether Gosling won an Oscar he doesn't know about, and Gosling admits that because Crowe has won two, they technically still have two between them. Of course, Crowe then has to remind him that he has in fact only won a single Oscar to date, after which Gosling cuts him off and starts reading out the nominees.
30. The Super-Weird Orchestra Music
One of the stranger behind-the-scenes decisions at this year's Oscars was the peculiar array of musical choices for the orchestra when playing entrance and exit music for awards presenters and winners. For example, Gosling and Crowe entered the stage to The Verve's Bittersweet Symphony, Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries was used as the play-off music, The Bee Gees' Stayin' Alive was used for Chadwick Boseman and Chris Evans, and other odd choices included Huey Lewis and the News' Power of Love, the Ghostbusters theme...and even the theme from 1967's Casino Royale. Considering that none of the songs really related at all to the respective parties, it just seemed scattershot and schizophrenic.
