7. Ronald Reagan's "Star Wars" Program Saves The Day
If you're old enough, you might remember that Ronald Reagan's government attempted to establish a missile defence system by the name of SDI (Strategic Defense Initiative), which the media mockingly dubbed "Star Wars". By 1993, President Clinton's administration dissolved SDI completely. However, it turns out that Reagan's defunct idea became a covert reality, a giant laser beam weapon which is what Fin, Gil and April head into space to activate. It's such an eccentric and weird plot point, but it strangely works. It's kinda like when Transformers: Dark of the Moon tied its story to the space race: it's kinda stupid, but kinda brilliant. That's right, Ronald Reagan saved the whole damn world. And people laughed at him.
