32. The Unexpected PG-13 Rating (Beyond Thunderdome)
One of the biggest controversies surrounding the third movie (which is generally agreed to be the worst of the first three) is that it's the only one in the series (including Fury Road) to be rated PG-13. Given the grim subject matter of the previous two movies, not to mention the brutal violence, it felt like a misguided step back in an attempt to make more money. The joke was on Warner Bros. in the end, though, because Beyond Thunderdome grossed only marginally more than the previous film despite having a significantly larger budget. As for the film itself? It's still thrilling and boasts some fun action sequences (especially the Thunderdome fight and the climactic chase), but the PG-13 rating absolutely hurt it.
