Despite the fact it features numerous scenes of young people brutally murdering each other, The Hunger Games series has been rated PG-13 from beginning to end, even though the confronting savagery of the material suggests it would probably be more comfortable as an R. It's a tough prospect for Lionsgate, because even ignoring the fact that an R-rated version of this movie would make substantially less money, the original novels were aimed at the "young adult" audience, whereas that same audience would not be permitted to see an R-rated movie. There has been much debate about how the movies were able to secure PG-13 ratings despite such evidently R-rated material, but that's where suggestive editing comes into play. The especially grim Mockingjay Part 2 feels like it only barely skated the line between the two ratings.
