Finnick's fate was sealed the moment he got married to Annie in Mockingjay Part 2: that's just fiction for you. The finale's best sequence is easily the squad's trek through the sewers to avoid the pods above ground, causing them to be attacked by a group of lizard-like mutts. Katniss and co. kill a bunch of the grotesque monsters and just barely seem to escape, but Finnick sadly gets left behind, dragged down from the escape ladder and pulled into the water, where he's feasted on by the mutts. Katniss hears Finnick's horrifying screams and drops an explosive device into the water to end his suffering and wipe out the remaining mutts. It's arguably the most disturbing scene in the entire franchise, and does a startlingly effective job despite the PG-13 restrictions. Remember, of course. that the mutts actually decapitate Finnick in the source material.
