4 Movies Oscar 2020 Winners Want You To Forget

1. Renee Zellweger - Return Of The Chainsaw Massacre

Famously relatable rom-com girl Renee Zellweger took home the Best Actress award for her role as Judy Garland in the film Judy. The reverence and clarity afforded this performance mark it as something few expected from someone seemingly irrevocably typecast as a befuddled romance seeker. Even those who hated the film itself were overwhelmed by the lead actress' portrayal of a waning star at the end of her career and indeed her life.

It's a far cry from a more regrettable end of her career. Early on, desperate for whatever roles she could get, the actress starred in some real stinkers. Shake, Rattle, And Rock was one of these and followed the exploits of some disenfranchised teens in the 1950s who want to start a rock 'n' roll band at a time when most of America saw this as the Devil's music. Of course, they decide to open a rock club and hire themselves to play, which rallies the parents against them and causes the town's conservative forces to shut down the club in the middle of a performance. One riot later, and the power of rock is shown to all.

But that film has nothing on 1995's Return Of The Chainsaw Massacre, a film so unanimously regarded as awful that it was hidden in a closet for two straight years before being recut into the more palatable, but still bad, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation.

Despite the name of the film, this doesn't star Patrick Stewat as Leatherface, but it does feature Renee Zellweger as Jenny alongside Matthew McConaughey's conservatively named Vilmer Slaughter. The two actors seem to be in a bet to see which of them can be the worst actor without getting fired and, while they both win the bet, the viewers lose.

Definitely, not one for the former Bridget Jones to write about in her diary.
