Okay, so you're probably well aware that mutant powers that allow you to manipulate magnetic fields are not exactly grounded in hard science but, frankly, the thing that is so unrealistic about Magneto, is just how underpowered he is.

Electromagnetism, as well as being the thing that keeps your fridge magnets in place, is one of the four fundamental forces in the universe alongside the strong nuclear force, weak nuclear force, and gravity. It is immensely powerful. Messing about with flinging metal objects around makes the self-proclaimed "master of magnetism" look like a god damn beginner compared to what he should be capable of.

Amongst other things, Magneto (or Erik to his pals), should have incredible night vision and extra-sensory perception. As a large amount of the matter in the universe generates a magnetic field, our Erik should technically be able to see with his eyes shut. He should also be able to see through certain physical objects by detecting these fields.

He should also have the ability to manipulate light. This not only gives his the power to switch the lights off without getting out of bed, but would allow him to essentially shape-shift by manipulating the light is reflected from him. He would also have the power of invisibility by deflecting light around himself.

He should also be able to disrupt electrical fields, generate X-rays, project holograms and even fry people with laser vision.

Come on, Erik, this isn't amateur hour.
