40 Incredible Film Facts You’ve Never Heard Of

16. Kevin Spacey Cast For Se7en Two Days Before Filming

The physically unimposing Kevin Spacey is perfectly cast as the man who is downtrodden by life's torments: beaten as a child by his mother, suffering through a sexless marriage until his wife eventually cheats on him and being fired from his job. Eventually the eerily creepy John Doe strikes back, triggering the chain of horrific crimes in the movie. Fascinatingly Kevin Spacey €“ the perfect actor for John Doe €“ was cast just two days before filming started.

15. Führer's Favourite Film Was Snow White

It comes as a great surprise that of all the film's he'd take a liking to, Adolf Hitler's favourite film was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Not that there's anything wrong with Disney's classic film about the young girl trying to escape her evil stepmother; it's just that we'd expect him to like something... different. Way back when the animated film was being made, Disney paid the animators $5 for every gag that made the final cut of the film, a hefty sum in the 1930s.

14. 237 Recurs In Steven King Movies

237 is something of a trademark in Stephen King novels (and the many awesome films adapted from them). It's the amount of change the four boys amass in Stand By Me ($2.37), Red's cell number in The Shawshank Redemption and the room number in The Shining. However, in King's novel the room number in The Shining was supposed to be 217. It was changed to 237 at the request of the Timberline Lodge in Oregon where some of the footage for the Overlook Hotel was shot. The establishment's owners were worried that people would become too afraid to stay in Room 217. Kubrick's superb stab at the horror genre was nominated for two Razzies in 1980 including one for Worst Director if you can believe it.

13. Natalie Portman Was Forced To Sacrifice Her Trailer For A Medic To See Her Broken Rib (Black Swan)

During the production of 2010's Black Swan Natalie Portman was unfortunate enough to dislocate a rib after being lifted for a dance routine. The film's budget ($13 million) was so stretched that the producer told the lead actress that they couldn't afford a medic. In the end Portman gave up her trailer so that one could be hired. What a champ!
