5. Kiefer Sutherland

I'm probably totally influenced by his performance as 24's Jack Bauer, but if you're looking for a bitter and weary Batman, then Sutherland has already proved he could play that type of character in his sleep. He also has a natural Dark Knight growl, as an added bonus. It's open to debate whether Kiefer would have made a decent stab at Bruce Wayne, which is an equally important part of the role, but by his later years you would have expected Bruce to have lost some of his pretence at leading the playboy persona, and Sutherland has a history of playing loner type of characters reasonably well. It's a casting choice that would almost certainly never happen, but it certainly would have been fun to see what he would have made of the role. Few actors play frustrated and 'running on empty' as well as Sutherland.
