5 Auditions With Legendary Actors Who Didn't Get A Legendary Role

2. Marlon Brando - Jim Stark (Rebel Without A Cause)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UbNHvaI3tg Even the man considered to be the greatest film actor of the past century had to try out for roles. Yes, we're talking about Marlon Brando here - the bloke who would break every mold and revolutionize acting for the screen. Early in his career, when he was known primarily for his theater work, though, Brando tried out for the lead role in Nicholas Ray's coming of age classic Rebel Without A Cause. The part was very close to his personal life due to his troubled upbringing and his issues with his alcoholic father, so as fervent disciple of Stanislavki's method and Lee Strasberg's teachings, Brando must have surely deployed his personal demons in this formidable scene. The role ended up going to James Dean, of course, who would also deliver a killer performance and create a pop cultural icon. Brando would embody Johnny Strabbler in the similarly themed The Wild One, a film produced by Stanley Kramer that would also make Brando a teen idol.
