4. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
My initial reaction to this book adaptation was more positive than it is from this distance. Abraham Lincoln slaying vampires was a fun idea executed with some stylish camera work on the screen. But now that I have had ample time to digest the film as a whole, I understand it really isn't very good. It is drab and, worse than anything, forgettable when all is said and done. None of the performances outside of the villain, played by Rufus Sewell, are bland and flat. It is hard to absorb the performances in a big gory action carnival ride when you are watching it. These things sometimes need distance. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter will be forgotten throughout the years when it should have been heralded as a fun ride. Perhaps the biggest issue is the serious tone. I mean, after all we are talking about one of the biggest, boldest American Presidents in history wielding an axe to slay night walkers. Did we really need to be dead serious about everything?
