3. Axe Cop
Axe Cop is a title with the most unique of origins. Brothers Malachai Nicolle (who was aged 5 when the series began in 2009) and Ethan Nicolle (aged 29 when the series began) created Axe Cop in a collaborative effort, with Malachai responsible for the ideas and stories and Ethan responsible for turning them into comics - the idea being that the ideas of a child are the ideal way to attract other children as readers. The result is a mad, zany but hugely fun comic. It's about the adventures of a police officer (Axe Cop) whose preference in battle is to wield an axe. He's a gruff, tough man whose life is dedicated to apprehending and killing bad guys. The comic's focus tends to be on the times he's called away to help with more complex and weird problems, such as rescuing a child from a zombie dog woman, helping 'Bat Warthog Man' to find his friends, fighting aliens from other planets or babysitting a human child with a unicorn horn on its head. Axe Cop has gathered a loyal team. His first ally is Flute Cop, who goes on to become Dinosaur Soldier, Ghost Cop, Drag-Tri-Ghostacops Rex, and Viking Cop... are you keeping up? Such was the success of the comic, it was signed to Dark Horse Comics - the same company who publish the likes of Hellboy, Sin City, The Mask and the Alien Vs Predator comics - and has received massive critical acclaim for its originality and sense of fun. The premise is just
so unbelievably insane that it could actually work on screen as a live action, action-packed comedy (perhaps as a superhero spoof/parody movie) with fantastic special effects, explosions, violence-galore and general badassery/kickassery. There is already a web series, and indeed a short television series, in development so the next step is to take it to the big screen. I know I'd watch it (though a big budget version might contain so much awesome that my face would explode).
