5 Awesome Story Arcs That Must Be Part Of DC's Cinematic Universe

2. The Death Of Superman

supermandead A way to bring Superman's current movie plight to an end (in a few years, obviously) would be to kill him off by making a movie based on the very dramatic and hugely popular Death of Superman storyline. The plot follows the crashing to Earth of Doomsday, an enormously powerful monster born on Krypton in its prehistoric times. Doomsday had ravaged worlds, killing thousands in its wake - including armies of Green Lanterns - but was ultimately beaten (and presumed dead) when the remaining people of the planet Calaton combined their life-forces in to one being to battle the beast. With one powerful blast of energy, Doomsday was defeated. Just to be safe, Doomsday's body was suited and shackled, placed in a sealed metallic casket, and sent in to space. For years his lifeless body floated around the cosmos, until one day his casket entered Earth's atmosphere and fell to the ground, crashing through it and embedding it deep beneath the surface. But Doomsday wasn't dead and awakened on Earth. He rampaged through America and couldn't be stopped by several teams of superheroes (who would need to be established prior to a movie in order for that to happen on screen). Ultimately, a final battle ensues between Doomsday and Superman where both combatants go all out on each other - the shockwaves of their punches bringing buildings down - until they both collapse and die. It's an action-packed and hugely emotional story in which Superman makes the ultimate sacrifice - his own life - to save the Earth. It would make for a fantastic big screen spectacle and a fitting, but very sad end to the current Superman movie continuity.
