5 Best & 5 Worst Comic Book Movie Reboots

1. BEST - Batman Begins

While it's the least of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, Batman Begins is not only a fantastic reboot, but it's also a brilliant film in its own right.

To address the first aspect first: Batman was in a right old state before Nolan stepped in. Joel Schumacher's tenure had left a bad, cheesy taste in everyone's mouth and several attempts to revive Batman for the big screen (including Darren Aronosky's mental-sounding Year One) hit the skids too.

But then Nolan - and thank God for him - came in and cleaned everything up. He consciously avoided any of the pulpy or camp elements of Schumacher's work and instead made an action movie starring a superhero, rather than a comic book movie. He gave Bruce Wayne more substance and Batman more of a backstory than we'd ever seen and the focus on the psychology of the character was a breath of fresh air.

The whole thing is only made more impressive by what came after it. It is the founding stone of the best superhero trilogy of all time (and possibly the best ever movie trilogy) and without its perfect reboot, we wouldn't have got to see more of Nolan's vision.
