5 Best & 5 Worst Comic Book Movie Reboots

2. WORST - Fantastic Four

Fantastic Four 2015
20th Century Fox

On paper, the Fantastic Four should be the basis for a great film franchise. They're Marvel's first family and their dynamic and backstory are more than compelling enough to warrant at least one good treatment. Unfortunately, before Marvel bought the rights back, there had been four Fantastic Four movies and none of them had got within the ballpark of "fantastic" by some distance.

After the silliness of Rise Of Silver Surfer, up-and-comer Josh Trank was brought in to make something more grown-up and gritty, which has never not worked for comic book movies... Except all those times you can easily recall immediately.

Anyway, on the back of ominous production stories that painted Trank as something of an enfant terrible, Fox apparently took control of the final edit and threw Trank's vision out. He responded by publicly shaming the film before it was even released, which helped the marketing campaign no end. Not that it mattered, because the film is so bad it's damn near unwatchable and it killed the potential franchise before it had even taken its first steps.
