5 Best & 5 Worst Comic Book Movie Reboots

8. WORST - The Amazing Spider-Man

While there are things to be said for Marc Webb's Amazing Spider-Man movies - like the commitment to trying to focus on stories mostly untold in Sam Raimi's trilogy and Andrew Garfield's performance as Peter Parker - its biggest problem was always that it simply didn't need to exist.

Even after Spider-Man 3 ended up being something of a mess, fans wanted Sam Raimi's fourth movie. Unfortunately, when it turned out that he couldn't deliver the movie in the required timeframe, Sony went with their plan B and decided to go with an Amazing reboot. Fans weren't exactly falling over themselves with enthusiasm, because of the proximity with Spider-Man 3.

And ultimately, it's that proximity that undoes The Amazing Spider-Man. Almost everything it attempts was already done and already done more effectively in Raimi's trilogy and the narrative around the outgoing director not being allowed to make his own movies derailed any positive marketing Webb's version could have hoped for.
