4. Anakin Skywalker & Padme Amidala (Star Wars I-III)
The relationship between Anakin, Jedi Knight turned Sith Lord, and Padme, former Queen turned senator, was... unorthodox, to say the least. When they first met, he was a nine year old slave while she was a fourteen year old Queen in hiding. Throughout the entire course of their first encounter its more than clear that while Annie plainly admires Padme, she views him as nothing more than a child to be looked after (although not exactly an adult herself). Fast forward ten years, when fate brings them together once more. Anakin is no longer a child, yet Padme assures him that to her, hell always be that little boy she knew on Tatooine. Not exactly words that set the heart aflutter. Anakin, though, spends the rest of their second encounter trying to prove himself to her. Which, given his position as the only thing between her and death via assassination courtesy of the Trade Federation, turns out to be pretty easy. Also, he now has a lightsaber, and, as we all know, lightsabers are awesome. This time, they part ways as a married couple. Something I always wonder while watching Attack of the Clones is, at which point did Padme stop seeing him as a child and start seeing him as something else? Blurry line, I suppose.
How It Ends: Skip ahead three more years and our not-so-happy couple again reunites, only for Padme to drop the Surprise, Im nine months pregnant with your baby bomb. This news is shortly followed by Anakins tragic turn to the dark side, and their last conversation ends with him force-choking her under the belief that she was in cahoots with Obi-Wan, who, incidentally, was by that time trying to kill him. In summary, their first date she was barely a teen and he was still in the single digits age-wise; on their second, they eloped, and their third ends with him indirectly responsible for her death. Star-crossed lovers, indeed.
