Perhaps that€™s why Steve Martin cast him in the role of an antagonistic French maitre d€™ in his surreal satire of L.A. culture. Stewart doesn€™t go over-the-top with this part like a lesser actor might have. Rather, he comes across as arrogant and condescending without turning into a cartoon. He makes it seem like Martin€™s poor weatherman is pleading for his life instead of simply making a reservation at a fancy restaurant. There are other funny cameos sprinkled throughout the film but this one stands out for being hilarious and somewhat terrifying at the same time.
