4. Either Have Arnie Or Dont
As previously mentioned Arnold Schwarzenegger was Governor of California at the time they shot this film. Other than a one minute appearance alongside Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis in The Expendables, Arnie true to his word focused on politics and not the movie industry. Despite this commitment to the people of California, the rest of the world still expected him to don the leather jacket and shades again and be back. Months of rumours finally led to the announcement of his appearance, but it wouldnt be quite what everyone was expecting. Most members of the public who had heard that Arnold would have a cameo in the movie probably left quite disappointed. Even those who read the web and Sci-Fi magazines, and knew Arnold would be making a computer generated appearance with a body double probably left disappointed. Indeed the CGI was excellent, and the slight flaw in realism in some ways added to the believability that you were in fact looking at an artificial being made to look like a human. The bad news for those excited by this came five seconds after you first saw it as that was all you were getting. After three shots of Schwarzeneggers face it was over as the T-800 had his human face blown off before the audience could get another glimpse. The briefest of appearance by the face which has become synonymous with the series was hugely disappointing and you have to ask if there was really any point to it? Terminator 3 established that T-800s that look like Arnold do come off a production line, but the first film in the series showed one (or at least what can only be assumed was another T-800) that didnt look like Arnold Schwarzenegger. This could have been any other actor and it could have been an opportunity to establish a new star of the series. With current reports suggesting that Arnie will have a much greater (if still reduced) role in T5 are true we can only hope that his scenes are meaningful and not just in there to tick a box.
