5 Directions That Mission: Impossible 5 Could Take

4. A Conspiracy Thriller

mi4 This seems a bit more likely, based on the kind of directors we€™ve had before- Brian €˜Hitchcock-lite€™ De Palma, J. J. €œAlias€ Abrams€ it would be nice to have a proper, solid thriller where no one can be trusted and someone is out to get Hunt & Co- whether it€™s to silence them for something they know or something they discover. The IMF (reading about the International Monetary Fund always makes me chuckle because I€™m imagining Christine Lagarde suspended above the ground by wires) have never been quite straight-cut and never really seem trustworthy- why does Hunt keep returning when they seem to either foil him at every turn or want his hide? €œThis goes straight to the top€ is a motif that would be fascinating here. Ethan and has team have to infiltrate the organisation they belong to, perhaps for its own good. Is there something rotten in its leadership? Has it taken its independence to ridiculous levels of corruption and powerlust? They seem to have limitless resources. Perhaps the real villain is Laurence Fisburne€™s Theodore Brassel? Ving Rhames€™ Luther Stickell?!?! I feel that the Impossible Missions Force as an organisation have a lot of potential- their structure, heirachy, methods, ethics and moral code are avenues that we haven€™t really explored, and going the route of a classic conspiracy thriller by way of John Frankenheimer or any 70€™s Robert Redford movie seems a great way to do it! Plus, it€™s a genre severely underrepresented these days. Maybe it€™s due a comeback in Mission: Impossible 5?
