5 Directors That Know How To Deliver A Blockbuster

2. Guy Ritchie

Yes, despite a promising career start with the double whammy of Lock, Stock... and Snatch, films which I greatly enjoy despite what others may think, it's fair to say that Guy Ritchie's career took a nose dive when he became Mr. Madonna. Two stinkers straight after one another in the form of Swept Away and the turgid mess that was Revolver. Yes, it look liked the once promising film-maker had lost his way with the bright lights of Hollywood leading him off a successful path. Then we had a partial return to form with RocknRolla, not great but enhanced by the fact that it wasn't Revolver. And it has the always great Mark Strong and Tom Hardy. Then he was handed a big studio picture; a reimagining of Sherlock Holmes, literature's greatest detective. And who would have thought he could have pulled it off. It was exciting, it had a good plot, fun characters and above all else it was damn charming. I loved it. To have followed it with Game of Shadows, which despite a few hiccups was generally a sequel worthy of the original. Though I'm curious to see a trilogy closer on this series, it seems that Guy has got his mojo back.
