5. The Wolverine
Look at Wolverine. He's so sexy with his new haircut and his finely pedicured claws. By the way, what's going on in this movie? Why is it called The Wolverine? Didn't we already watch his standalone film? Is this the sequel to that origins movie? Are we ignoring that origins movie and just starting over? Is this after X-Men The Last Stand? Is it before or after X-Men First Class? How does this relate to X-Men Days of Future Past? Calm down. You are not alone. These are all legitimate questions that you as the average movie goer are asking. Now for the avid comic book reader of course they will read up until right before this sentence started, let their over-prideful egos take over, and jump straight down to the comments section where they will share some of the nastiest/nerdiest/unwarranted hate-filled comments possible all because they assumed that I really didn't understand what is going on in this film. To them I say, I will enjoy destroying you with my verbal onslaught. To answer your questions this film is set after all of the X-Men movies that we have previously seen. After watching the trailer you will wonder what the hell I am talking about. This is because there are flashback scenes that are set in 1945 Nagasaki. Here, we will see Logan shield a fellow prisoner, thus laying the ground work for a major plot point. That plot point being that the fellow prisoner will someday offer to return the favor. The favor being, an opportunity to no longer live life as an immortal. And so the story follows Logan as he stares down the option of being powerless which is an internal struggle we have watched him deal with throughout all four movies. Point is, the internal struggle which serves as the meat and potatoes of this story has been well documented in the past. He travels to Japan, he takes on some guys in a "life or death" situation, and he battles with a delightful little toy known as Silver Samurai. I don't want to spoil anything so I will just leave you with that simple little summary. Should be well worth watching my friends. It hits theaters July 26th.
