1. Commando (1985)
A strange choice for number one, I hear you cry, but I'd take issue with that. Now, I'm not saying this film has Arnold's best acting, or the best storyline, or the best script, or the best direction, but the film is just genius. It's not trying to be serious. It's not trying to make a statement. It's not trying to make you think. But what it does do it does to perfection. A cheesy entertaining all-out action film with Arnold at his finest basically playing himself (or John Matrix), on a hunt to catch and kill the people who have kidnapped his daughter. Throw in an Australian bad guy in a chain-mail vest, a rocket launcher, funny one-liners and Arnold getting an ice cream in the face from a small girl and you've got yourselves one hell of a film. Made in 1985, the height of the action film era, it boasts a soundtrack by James Horner, (Aliens, Star Trek II, Titanic) and is full of over the top action, car chases, steel pipes through the chest and Arnold eating Green Berets for breakfast. This film sums up what Arnold does best; he entertains us with his man boobs and his cheesy dialogue while shooting up the place and kicking some goons in the face. Its a fun, no brain action film that anyone can enjoy and that is why it is number 1 on this list.
Best quote: Arnold - "Remember Sully when I promised to kill you last?" Scully - "That's right Matrix, you did!" Arnold - "I lied." I know that Arnolds acting career will be looked back on with fond memories by the fans and disbelief by the haters, the same as any actor really. The difference is that this actor is bigger and badder than them all: he has been in so many top hit films and no one can quite replace him as the King of action, so we welcome you back Arnie, with open arms and we pray that your newest addition will be a throwback to the classics just discussed. He always said he would be back, lets just see if hes still got it. So there we have it. Agree, disagree? Sound off in the comments section.
