5 Franchises That Would Be Better With Other Studios
1. X-Men/Fantastic Four With Marvel Studios
It is finally time for the X-Men and Fantastic Four to join their Marvel Comics contemporaries at Marvel Studios.
Credit must be given where credit is due: Fox has created some of the best comic book film adaptations of all-time with the X-Men franchise. However, their efforts have been inconsistent. For every Logan, Deadpool and X2, there is a X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine and X-Men: Apocalypse.
It feels like a time for transition for the X-Men, as Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart are finished playing their respective roles as Wolverine and Professor Charles Xavier. The X-Men spinoff, The New Mutants, has been pushed back and Gambit has been delayed so much it feels as if it will never happen.
There's also the upcoming Dark Phoenix, which hasn't generated as much buzz as past X-Men films. The lone exception is Ryan Reynold's Deadpool, whose fourth wall-breaking ability makes him an ideal character to throw into a different universe following a franchise revamp.
The case for Fantastic Four is even stronger, as Fox has never been able to get the property off the ground. The studio has released three movies adapting Marvel's first family, all of which have fielded a mediocre response from fans and have been torched (pun intended) by critics. The latest effort, Fant4stic was panned as one of the biggest flops in recent memory.
For varying reasons, both the X-Men and Fantastic Four seem ready for a change. This seems as if it will happen, as approval of the Fox-Disney merger grows likelier by the day. Anything that gets the Merc with a Mouth in the same playing field with Spider-Man will be welcomed.
