4. Tom Waits
He has one of the most distinctive voices in modern music and is a ridiculously talented composer. His name is whispered in awed, hushed tones by other musicians. Waits has been a force in music for over 40 years. Hes also been acting for about the same length of time. Albeit, some of his roles are small and un-credited (Wolfen, One from the Heart, The Two Jakes), and others are bit parts (The Book of Eli) but he was front and center in 2012s Seven Psychopaths. Whats most impressive about Waits acting is that he manages to slip seamlessly into a film. His characters might be odd, jarring even, but Im not focusing on the fact that Tom Waits is portraying them. His fame and persona never overshadow his performance, a skill that some seasoned actors havent mastered yet (see Robert Downey, Jr. in Sherlock Holmes). Bonus: Waits has a Golden Globe (an ensemble award for his role in Short Cuts, but still, it counts).
