3. Doris Day
Before Julia Roberts, Meg Ryan, Kate Hudson and any other romantic comedy star you can think of, there was Doris Day. With her platinum blond locks and million-watt smile, she was the quintessential girl next door, as wholesome as apple pie. Day started out as a big band singer in 1939 and began acting in 1948. Over the course of her acting career she starred in 39 films, picked up an Oscar nomination and a bunch of other lifetime achievement awards. Today, Day is ranked #6 in top-ranking box office performers (of the past 80 years, cuz yeah, she was that bankable). She also managed to put out 29 albums and record songs that are considered modern-day classics. What a woman.
