3. The Happiness of The Katakuris/Katakuri-ke no kôfuku (2001)
There is a long list of movies that I could have picked from the body of work by Takashi Miike, but this seems like the stand out to really test if they are willing to watch anything you put in front of them. The movie's poster suggests that it's like "The Sound of Music meets Dawn of the Dead", but it is so much more than that! You are greeted with a Claymation introduction in which a bird steals organs, a girl is crushed to death during a rather intimate scene with her rather overweight partner, there are singer zombies and all of this set within the confines of a family-run hotel. Although the film is subtitled, if you look past this you and hopefully your partner are in for a real treat both visually and musically, because half way through there is a karaoke segment where the audience can join in. The film was even kind enough to have the words in English so everyone can join in the fun! A Japanese zombie horror dark comedy musical (I don't even think there is a comprehensible way to shorten that and somehow the acronym JZHDCM is going to catch), may not be the best way to impress your spouse with your wide and varied film knowledge, but it just seems like the next logical step if you have already shown them the first two in the list.
