5 Hong Kong Category 3 Nasties

2. The Untold Story (1993)

09.03.2013untold Wong Chi Hang is running like hell away from the police who are trying to catch him on a murder charge. He ends up as a fugitive cook in Macau where he works in the 8 Immortals restaurant. During a game of mahjong with the owner of the restaurant he gets accused of cheating. So naturally, he kills his boss and takes over the restaurant for himself. Meanwhile decomposing body parts are washing up on the beach and the police suspect Wong has something to do with it. Wong continues to run the restaurant in a bloody reign of terror where he cheerfully kills any employee who may have an inkling of what he is up to. Eventually the law catches up with Wong and he is thrown in jail where the detectives put him in a cell with a victim's relative in order to bash a confession out of him. Apparently based upon a true story, the film doesn't skimp on the depiction of bloody violence. The brutal rape and murder by Wong of one of his female employees is extremely nasty and protracted to the point where it is probably one of the worst portrayals of rape and murder in cinema history. The murder of the family is horrible with the children looking particularly distressed as their parents are killed. Anthony Wong is an awesome baddie HK actor and he plays Wong Chi Hang with utter conviction. A lot darker and more disturbing than Hollywood serial killer films such as Silence of the Lambs and Seven, The Untold Story will only really be of interest to those who like a slice of sicko with their films, or discerning (depraved) people like me.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
