3. Oldboy
The story itself of Chan Wook Parks Oldboy is as grippingly thrilling and torturing to watch at times. Even to describe the plot A guy gets locked in a room for fifteen years and doesnt even know why? right away makes you want to watch this movie. The very idea of being locked up in a room with only a crappy TV, a journal and your thoughts is brutalising enough. But to try and commit suicide only to be saved by your captors and locked in the room once again just seems like psychological agony. The moment that made me and Im sure others look away is when Oh Dae-su (Min-sik Choi) discovers that his lover Mi-do (Hye-jeong Kang) is actually his daughter and begs his captor Woo-jin Lee (Ji-tae Yu) not to tell Mi- do. Pleading and screaming for forgiveness as an act of silence he then picks up a pair of scissors and cuts out his own tongue off. My idea of revenge is when someone asks for a Diet Coke I give them a regular Coke (I know Im an evil genius). But locking someone in a room with just a TV! Id most likely die of pure boredom.
