5 Horror Movie Characters Who Should Have Died (And 5 We Wish Hadn’t)

7. Should Have Died: Julie James - I Know What You Did Last Summer

Scream/ A Quiet Place
Columbia Pictures

Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt), one of the sole survivors of I Know What You Did Last Summer, is arguably one of horror's weakest final girls. Unlike Laurie Strode or Sidney Prescott, Julie lacks the self-sufficiency, resilience, and badassery of these iconic characters, and her survival is pretty perplexing.

This gory horror flick, which, alongside Scream, helped to rejuvenate the slasher genre in the late 1990s, sees a vengeful murderer stalk a group of teenagers who, the year prior, had accidentally killed a pedestrian.

While Julie is a rather lackluster (and, honestly, whiny and annoying) final girl, Helen Shivers (Sarah Michelle Gellar), on the other hand, is a fan favorite and far more likeable and entertaining than the film's actual protagonist.

Although Helen's death (which comprises of a thrilling chase scene) is one of the most iconic moments of the franchise, it would have been even better if Julie and Helen had switched places, allowing the latter to ultimately emerge as the series' final girl.
